I wouldn't touch the NYT with a 50' pole. Unless it had spikes on it and I could get a good swing in. I *had* a subscription to NYT once upon a time but cancelled it several years ago after they kept backing down on reporting honestly about Trump. Nothing they've done since has convinced me they have changed in the slightest, they bear an unhealthy portion of the blame for the mess we're in now. Sure, they're running anti-Trump material now, but if he's ever truly down, it will take them roughly five minutes to start rehabilitating his image and most of his followers/handlers.
Note, it took me almost half an hour to cancel a simple digital subscription. I also cancelled WaPo after their chicken livered refusal to make any endorsement for president. At least they had a proper, modern cancellation procedure. Replaced them with the Philadelphia Inquirer, not my local paper (sigh) but since they're run by a non-profit foundation, they're immune to a lot of the rot in mainstream journalism.
I agree. Both NYT and WaPo are running continuous anti-trumpleon stories. Too many cancelled over "sanewashing" when in fact the examples of even that were often cherry picked. And the coverage of things OTHER than trump remains stellar.
If you are a senior, you can get papers even cheaper if you have access to senior programs at a nearby college or university. Mine allows auditing for $25/quarter and gives me an .edu address that gets the student subscriptions. Plus, the auditing strengthens the mind.

Musk wants to have no local or federal regulations or oversights of his many companies and government contracts . He is building company towns in Texas to do this, DOGE has eliminated many of the departments that were investigating his companies, he has had a lot of influence in many authoritarian governments around the world and as in .germany supports authoritarianism and rule by oligarchs.

Republican voters have increasingly relied on faith while Democrats deal mainly in facts. Faith through religion; faith through politics; faith through economics. What Republicans are told they believe, facts be damned. And they have a full-fledged disinformation media network of cable news, "conservative" radio and RW newspapers that repeat the lies infinitely. The fact that the so-called Big Lie - that Trump won the 2020 election - is still believed by 2/3 of Republicans is a testament to the power of faith and disinformation.
